Helping things
take root.
Reforestation work has become part of my conservation journey. It brings the idea of restoration out of the abstract and into the living world.
ABOUT US / THE HUMAN BEHIND THE WONDER
Hi, some of you know me as Stella The Turtle Girl, and others know who this ninja really is. Scientist turned coder, product builder, conservation explorer—and the person making these little worlds.
ReWild Interactive brings together the things I keep coming back to: nature, play, and the possibility that a small moment of wonder can change how we see the world.
Here’s how I got here ↓
A PATH WITH A FEW UNEXPECTED TURNS
I was born and raised in Vancouver, with oceans and forests shaping my sense of home. That love of the living world has followed me through every chapter since.
I started out in science, earning a doctorate in biochemistry and researching universal blood. I loved asking questions and untangling complicated problems. Eventually, that curiosity took me into computing: I taught myself to code and moved into technology and product leadership.
I spent 6.5 years at Google building large-scale products and contributing to sustainability efforts, including tools to help people navigate extreme heat. Along the way, I kept wondering how technology could help people feel more connected to the world around them.
That question now follows me beyond the screen. I’ve been travelling through Asia, volunteering and learning alongside conservation organisations. My experiences have included reforestation, turtle nesting sites, turtle rescues, and bird research.
I’m especially interested in how culture, education, traditions, and everyday circumstances shape our relationship with nature. There’s a lot to learn from the people who care for a place every day.
THINGS THAT FIND THEIR WAY INTO THE WORK
Reforestation work has become part of my conservation journey. It brings the idea of restoration out of the abstract and into the living world.
From nesting sites to rescues and husbandry work, turtles have become a meaningful part of my time in conservation—and an excellent source of inspiration.
Birding and research keep opening new questions for me: about wildlife, communities, and the different ways people connect with the nature around them.
THE THREAD THROUGH ALL OF IT
You don’t need to know every species name or have all the answers to begin caring about nature. Sometimes the first step is simply noticing.
That’s the spirit behind ReWild: small, inviting experiences that make room for curiosity. A game can introduce an unfamiliar creature. A story can make a place feel closer. A quiet prompt can send you outside.
I care about conservation that includes the communities closest to it, and about making space for people to contribute in different ways. Science, storytelling, design, coding, and everyday acts of care all have something to offer.
A little wonder is a good place to start. ✧A FEW OTHER BRANCHES
Other projects I’m building and growing.
My separate birding project, for taking that curiosity about birds a little further into the world.
